Arrieta
Arrieta is a small coastal town located in the north of Lanzarote, surrounded by a majestic natural environment. Its charm lies in the fact that it still retains its beach life spirit and holds a small traditional village characteristic.
What to see and do in Arrieta
Arrieta is not a major tourist destination full of places to visit, however, its tranquillity is what sets it aside. Its laid back atmosphere and peaceful surroundings are what make it a unique getaway location.
Arrieta's main attraction is undoubtedly La Garita beach, a wonderful bay of crystal clear water that stretches for half a mile (800 metres) along the east coast of the island. It's a quiet beach and very popular amongst surfers.
Strolling through the old town, we find some buildings such as the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen or the unique Casa Azul (Blue House) that stands out with its characteristic white buildings.
Excellent fresh fish and seafood restaurants can be found all over the island, but some coastal towns such as Arrieta are known to have some of the best restaurants in Lanzarote.
With the good quality and highly varied selection of products along with the long list of restaurants with impressive terraces, this spot has become an important gastronomic hub for its visitors.
Among the most popular products that can be bought in Arrieta, you can find basketry articles made from the leaves of the palm trees, produced thanks to the fertile valley of Haría. You can also buy other handicrafts such as embroidery and ceramics.
If you visit Arrieta at the end of July, you'll have the chance to immerse yourself in a fun-packed festival in honour of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, a celebration in which the streets of the village dress up to pay homage to the Virgin Mary and an emotional procession takes place aboard small fishing boats.
How to get to Arrieta
The most common way to get to Arrieta is by car, as most tourists visiting Lanzarote choose to hire a car to get around the island comfortably while discovering its main places of interest.
If you do not plan to rent a car in Lanzarote it's also possible to get to Arrieta by bus, but you have to take into account that it's only possible to visit some locations so you'll have to depend on the established schedules. It's also not the most comfortable or the fastest option to move around the island.
